VALIE EXPORT’s groundbreaking film work emerged within the context of conceptual art, performance, expanded cinema, cybernetics, and body art. Today, she is internationally recognized as a pioneering feminist media artist. Building on the legacy of Austrian avant-garde movements—such as Viennese Actionism and structural film— VALIE EXPORT fundamentally transformed cinema. While a film like Syntagma engages with the material foundations of cinematic language, her approach to filmmaking is far from purist. The point of departure for her "action films" is her own body, as seen in …Remote…Remote…, arguably her most disturbing work.
The film program will be introduced by Ulrike Hanstein. After the screening, there will be a discussion with Christa Blümlinger, Veerle Thielemans, and Ulrike Hanstein.

As part of the BA Cultural Studies at the University of Art and Design Linz, students were conducting research at the VALIE EXPORT Center Linz for one semester.
The course participants had the opportunity to carry out the individual steps of archival indexing (inventory, systematization, archival description, keywording) on the basis of VALIE EXPORT's artistic ideas for public space and Kunst am Bau projects, which can be found as models and in various archival materials at the research center. Based on the models, references between artistic works and archival materials were researched and brought together.
The results of this search for traces will be presented on the occasion of International Archives Day at the VALIE EXPORT Center Linz.
