Research
The VALIE EXPORT Center Linz is a lively place of ongoing research. In addition to the cataloguing and scholarly processing of the archive, the Center offers an institutional framework for researchers from academia and the arts.
The Center’s guiding principle is that creative, artistic, and scholarly works are not merely settings, but situated and speculative processes of experimentation. VALIE EXPORT's archive, with its focus on media and performance art, expands the subject matter of the research beyond the aesthetic practices, experiential spaces, and critical debates about traditional art forms. VALIE EXPORT's premature legacy opens up access to cross-genre processes of artistic production that are structured by media technology and experiments with social relations.
Current research topics at the VALIE EXPORT Center include:
- Feminist art: Photography, experimental film, video, and performance
- Media aesthetics and the history of media art
- Female artists' archives and procedures of documentation: Archival processes and curatorial practices
- Performance as action knowledge and relational aesthetic research
