Archival Glimpses
Two display cases at the VALIE EXPORT Center Linz with contents that change every three months provide insights into the Archive on the basis of physical documents from the premature legacy.
Archival Glimpses, Take 13
01/06 – 30/09/2022
Modelled Space
Between 1995 and 1999, the EU project URBION enables the City of Vienna to make a number of structural changes to revitalise and upgrade the Gürtel Street, supervised by the architect Silja Tillner. On the initiative of the City’s Women's Office (MA 57), VALIE EXPORT designs a "glass room" that in collaboration with the architect is placed in an arch near the subway station Josefstädterstraße. Kubus EXPORT. Der Transparente Raum opens up temporarily for artistic programmes, but is also an independent artistic work in public space.
Archival Glimpses, Take 13 was realised as part of a course for BA Cultural Studies at the VALIE EXPORT Center Linz. Students researched the models in the premature legacy during the summer semester and present their selection of archival materials in the display cases. They show insights into the genesis and use of the Kubus EXPORT, as well as VALIE EXPORT's artistic and curatorial approaches. The “transparent space”, apparently unlimited, interacts with the city as a permeable and socio-political place.
